THE HISTORY OF MILITARY HIGH SCHOOL MIHAI VITEAZUL
The Military High Schools have always been a special part of the history of Romanian military education.Set up on the 23rd of Septermber 1919 in Tg. Mures, the high school has had a sinuos development, related with the historical events that have passed over it. Up to 1940, when it was moved to Timisoara, the school had counted over 1500 students, and between 1940 and 1947, almost 500, many of them became famous military staff, nine were active generals of the Romanian Army, others became physicians, engineers and teachers. A special place have gl. V. Dobrin, gl. Lupu Serban, col. N. Tataru and C. Jugulescu members of Romanian Academy, professor dr. V. Vascenco, chief of the romanic languages chair at Heidelberg University in Germany. In 1947, while in Timisoara the school was repealed on the grounds of political reasons. After 1947 the history and the fame of the institution lived only through the evolution of its graduates. Beginning with 1975 it was re-established in Alba Iulia, where it is now carrying on its activity in a new and modern building. The number of students who have graduated from Alba Iulia is close to 4000.The school has achieved and preserved great traditions and results through the work of both teachers and students, many of whom have succeeded in obtaining the best results either in the military or civilian fields.

Alba Iulia
ALBA-IULIA is a beautiful modern city as well as an important cultural and historical center. The city was a thriving ancient Thracian settlement, and later after being conquered by Romans, it became an important cultural and political center in the Roman Empire. A great fortress is situated in the center of the city, built in the 18th century, it houses numerous monuments. Located inside the fortress the St. Michael catholic cathedral was built in the 13th century for the Transylvanian archbishop in the Hungarian Empire. The cathedral houses inside the tombs of the king of Transylvania Iancu Corvin de Hunedoara (Ioannus Corvinus) and his wife and of Queen Mary-Elisabeth of Hungary. Also inside the fortress there is the Orthodox Cathedral, the History Museum, the Union Hall and the 17th century Batthyanaeum Library.
